2013 Grammy Nominations: Frank Ocean, Miguel, Beyoncé, Luke James & More

Kid Fury December 5, 2012 Iss Ah Pardaaaay! 98 Comments

The full list for next year’s Grammy Award nominees has been revealed after a terribly boring live show in Nashville. On the list are several nods for Frank Ocean, Miguel and Fun. Frank earned six nominations including Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year and Best New Artist. Miguel pulled in five nominations such as Song of The Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album.

Beyoncé nabbed a spot on Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Love On Top” while Luke James and Estelle sit at Best R&B Performance. Shockingly, Carly Rae Jepsen only received two nominations for her smash “Call Me Maybe” — Song Of The Year and Best Pop Solo.

All well deserved! I hope Frank Pulls through.

I still don’t see it for “Call Me Maybe” being nominated for best pop solo performance because it isnt vocally challenging or deep but w/e

Sucks to suck Onniga and Justine

    • EntertainMeh aka heyboo

Why does music have to be deep to be good? I think people tend to forget what music is about, sometimes it’s strictly for fun & that’s great. She deserves a nomination, that song was done over and over across the world and it isn’t like it’s Rebecca Black or some shit.

      • Ddttrs87

I’m sorry lady but no. The Grammys aren’t about good music, they are (meant to be) about GREAT music. They are THE award for musicians. I’m not putting the song on the same level as “Friday” (although it’s not THAT far off if we’re honest), but just because a song catches on Internationally and you can get your drunk white girl on to it doesn’t mean it deserves a Grammy. I mean c’mon, Best Pop Solo Performance???!?!?!? REALLY?

If you feel that way then I guess if Psy’s “Gangnam Style” got a  couple Grammys next year it’d A-OK with you even though nobody knows what the fuck the song is about but we (myself included) still act a fool and start speaking in asian tongues whenever it comes on…

        • EntertainMeh aka heyboo

No, I don’t think Gangnam Style should get an award lol…I understand what you mean though. But Carly’s song isn’t THAT bad, it’s a pop song. Pop=popular and the girl can actually sing (in other songs) so I don’t think this is that far off. But anytime you put Adele in the same category or Kelly C. people dismiss you. La di da.

          • Alicia Collins

A good pop song means a good pop vocal. You must bring a nice clean sound along with it. If you listen to Call Me Maybe, you can’t put it next to the other vocal performances this year. Call Me Maybe sounds like it was made in a friend’s studio basement.

    • lala

Robin thickes love after war got robbed imo……

    • Jazz

I really really really hope Lupe Fiasco wins a Grammy this time around. He’s the underdog every year but that man is the truth. I think his lyrics and style go over people’s heads, but now that he’s talking about quitting the biz now would finally be a good time for him to get his just due.

      • Yiles

Lupe said in an interview that he won’t be quitting. He said he’ll continue to make music just as an Indie artist and instead of on a mainstream label. I do agree though he does deserve a Grammy.

  • M.J.

Am hype for Frank, Bey, and Elle Varner getting nominations, and hopefully winning. Why that  Carly Rae girl is nominated, I don’t know, and won’t say anything about that one artist, who likes arguing with legends, who didn’t get nominated.

  • Deshunakye

. . . wait, is 2 Chainz really nominated? I have just taken my nine cat lives and I will be exiting stage left because this? I just cannot and will not.

    • whatevs

I saw that and sucked my teeth for like a minute

    • Shadinator

they had to have given Nicki’s nomination to him because of her shitty album, that’s all I can think of. Catch that shade lmao Then again they probably didn’t know where to place it seeing as it was all over the damn place. Anyway, that album didn’t deserve a nomination or even a spot on a dusty sam goody rack in all honesty. *shrugs*

      • AbOriginal

LMAO at “dusty sam good rack”!

  • AH

I can see it for Frank Ocean. Between Channel Orange, his connections with some of the biggest names in music, and his brave coming out party (no shade whatsoever) I would be shocked if he didn’t win something.

LOL at not seeing Onigga’s name up there. Maybe I didn’t look hard enough. Either way she can go sit on a cactus and stay mad. I was not feeling her attitude this year… Or her stank ass perfume.

  • Jessica

I hope nas wins! He deserves it.

    • harri008

I know right! Nas is a legend imo! I don’t understand why he doesn’t have several grammy’s..

  • Joseline’s Adam’s Apple

4 Nominations for you Frank Ocean, you go Frank Ocean!

And none for Nicki Minaj, bye.

    • Renee

      Ha! I get it!

    • Terese

I loves me some Mean Girls shade!!!!

    • serenissima

Reads that reference ‘Mean Girls’ > all other reads

    • LAgolden

      i’m here for this! lmao

    • Yep It’s Kwanzaa

Perfect use….. and to Nicholas HA! SUFFER! *In my Pepper Labeija voice*

  • Welp

Listen, I don’t even like her music, but that Taylor Swift song puts me in my feelings! Saying that, Frank has to win Record of the Year. No other song even comes close.

  • Seats

I hope Frank wins for one or two like he deserves but a lot of the attention on him is due to overhype. Here’s to hoping he isn’t India.Arie’d (YES I’m still MAD about that)

And I am overjoyed for Miguel. He’s been working like crazy and the calibre of his album was on the same level if not higher than Frank’s he just didn’t have a letter. All in all the Grammy did a good job of being inclusive and giving shine to artist they would normally snub. Kudos.

    • nutella gollum

      Definitely agreed. Well said

    • Suchalady

       True indeed.

    • drmsd

I guess it’s a start. I’ll take it seriously when they actually give the awards to deserving artists and not just pay lip service. So if Luke James isn’t winning, he better be losing to Miguel. I wish they could tie in that category b/c I really want Miguel to win everything. “All I Want is You” and “Kaleidoscope Dreams” are my ish!!!!

  • Welp

Beliebers losing their ish on twitter. “It’s not much of life your living…” *Rihanna voice*

  • Renee

I am so here for “adorn” being nominated for song of the year! The first time I heard that song my whole world stopped! I will never understand why it wasn’t bigger than it was.

  • CaramelHottie

Best Rap Album: Life is Good (NAS), Best Rap Performance: Niggas In Paris, Best R&B Album: Nobody.. Well maybe Tamia her voice is great, Best Urban Album: Miguel, Best Traditional R&B Performance: This is hard a hard one. Both Love on Top and WSOALS does something to my spirit with the vocals, Best R&B Performance: Climax, Best Pop Album: Stronger, Best Pop Solo Performance: Kelly Clarkson, Best New Artist: Frank Ocean, Song Of The Year: Adorn, Album Of The Year: Channel Orange & Record of The Year: Thinking About You..

But the shade IS that Nicholas released TWO albums this year and STILL ain’t get nominated. Shit Take Care did and it came out a whole year ago.

    • Seats

You said best R&B no one?! Oh girl. Did you hear Black Radio? Trust me it’s amazing go listen.

      • Scarf Junkie

Yaaaaasss it is Seats…Black Radio is EVERYFUCKINTHING!!!!

      • CaramelHottie

Obviously I haven’t but now maybe I will lol

    • Esha

The only one I disagree with is best new artist. It should be the Alabama Shakes, just watch my girl britney skye sing and play her guitar and you will see Frank doesn’t have anything on her:

      • BlairWaldorf2013

You just turned me on to Alabama Shakes…GOOD SHIT.

        • Esha

Go head and get your life because that girl sings with all her soul and I love it.

      • Scarf Junkie

Her voice……..I’m here for all of it….

      • KidFury

I don’t see it. I like the band, but I don’t see them beating Fun. or Frank Ocean. Then again…shit like that has happened at the Grammys before.

      • CaramelHottie

I listened. She was dope. Thanks for the recommendation.

      • Shhhh

well I clicked on the link and heard music, real talented artist singing and playing real instruments with no studio help and modifiers.  Thank @691499f9adbee572345f872dbd577e54:disqus

      • Alicia Collins

Jesus, Britney saved my life this year! Her and her little lisp. Rise to the Sun, You Ain’t Alone, Heavy Chevy. I had to pick it up on vinyl so I could jam out in my house. I want the world to know about The Alabama Shakes!

  • whatevs

I’m so happy Elle Varner is here! And legit surprised about Kelly Clarkson? As much as I love Frank, I feel like best album is gong to be a fight between Jack White & Mumford and Sons because this IS the Grammys we’re talking about.

    • harri008

So true! This is the Grammys..

  • Beyoncelover56

Thank God Sicki Minaj didnt get any noms, that album aint SHIT and ain’t gon never be SHIT.

I am surprised that the taylor swift song is nominated, its good but didn’t the song come out like a week ago.
The nominees this year are mostly well deserved except one.

    Guess which one?

  • Beyoncelover56

    Oh yeah

    • jajay22

you know bey snatches eyebrowwigs left and right #beyshitsonyouevenwhensheisnottrying

    • ZJ

I won’t even be watching this fuckery if she’s not scheduled to perform.

  • Suchalady

Taylor Swift for record of the year though?! Can there be a full awards show without her just once!? Ever!?
Anyhoo, yassssss for Tamia! So humble and underrated. I love her.

  • Elle

    No Neyo

    • EntertainMeh aka heyboo

  • Scarf Junkie

Yaaaaaaassss for Frank Ocean and Robert Glasper!! They are in heavy rotation on my iTunes, I am here for both of them!!!!

  • ZJ

Tyrese?!! Didn’t even know he had an album out.

    • Comeback

me too! i didn’t know tamia had an album out…i thought she stopped with music years ago…sigh but congrats to them though.

  • serenissima

Carly Rae Jepsen and 2 Chainz nominated for Grammies? Where’s my karaoke machine???

    • KidFury

Carly Rae Jepsen’s first album is actually really good and as far as 2 Chainz…well, Three 6 Mafia won an Oscar. *shrug*

  • ziggy gnarly.

*in Onigga’s voice* Nicki ain’t shit and the Grammy’s saying something. You didn’t get a nod and your album went “Nothing.” Your wig just got snatched … wig wig just got snatched.

    • Lex

YESS!!! This is my new JAM!!!

    • BlairWaldorf2013

OMG…you just took my life, gave me life, and redefined Onigga’s tragic life all in one swoop.

    • Jacqueline Atta

  • nutella gollum

I hope Frank does well but I’m rooting for Miguel :)

    • KidFury

I hope Frank rips Miguel’s clit off in each category, just for being shady during that Breakfast Club interview.

      • CaramelHottie

        LOL Fury youre a mess.

I have a feeling their both gonna get looked over. But I guess being nominated is a blessing anyways lol

      • AbOriginal

::Runs to go get Chinese-inspired fan, debutante gloves, and opera balcony binoculars to sit and watch with Fury in complete agreement::
For the moment when Miguel is like:

  • Kim Kardashian’s “Cold Sore”

Congrats to everyone. They all deserved it. And I ain’t hating, but I’m really not here for seeing Taylor Swift’s overly surprised ass snatch up a grammy for that annoying ass song.

    • Shhhh

that song makes my ears bleed!!!

  • WhyThough

Haha this is not even a nicki minaj post and yet people stay bringin’ her name up ..some of y’all really ain got no life.

    • Kim Kardashian’s “Cold Sore”

Sweet pea, this is a post about all artists that put anything out this year. We’re just rejoicing in the fact that she didn’t get nominated for her fuckery instead of artists who put out real shit. What kind of defective ass calculator are you using that added us up to having no lives? You’re clearly using Casio and not Texas Instruments.

      • WhyThough

lol madame, you mad though? Idk why you bringing “Calculators” in this..your obviously pressed over ms.onika…but imma let you have it though.

        • Yep It’s Kwanzaa

Who has time to be pressed over Nicholas… you among her plastic clan slay me that anyone with common sense and see her for the tragedy that she is has no lives and are haters. No real recognize real, I was a fan I feel like I got duped and I moved on found some EXCELLENT underground female rappers this past year and hope the y get the shone the deserve.

          • WhyThough

Lol sis I’m no where near a Stan of ms. Onika I just find it weird how people
Bring her name up on this post which she isn’t relevant on..but I’m glad you found some good underground female rappers though.

          • Yep It’s Kwanzaa

How is she, a music artist, not relevant to a page speaking about nominations for the biggest awards show for music artists?!? *confused face* Plus her camp and her want to bxtch about not being nominated oh this is a time where she is relevant.

          • WhyThough

idk…so many people hate her on this blog I was just surprised she was brought up…but to each its own girl….

      • serenissima

  • Guest

Look, I don’t even know who most of these people are. Like seriously.

    • EntertainMeh aka heyboo

The grammy ain’t shit…I personally think the billboard awards are more relevant and factual. Grammys are politics as usual.

  • StacksonStacks

    See that Nicki? #neaux1currr

  • Ansonia Jones

But did y’all see how she blocked one of her fans on Twitter for saying that it was “somewhat understandable” that she didn’t get nominated? I never thought of her as having a stank attitude up until now, but that did it. I’m so over that chick…..

  • Jamie

I just feel like The Black Keys are gonna come through and snatch every single wig, and they deserve it. I’m rooting for Auntie Miguel, though.

    • Esha

I wish The Black Keys would have gotten this much publicity last year instead of being relegated to the pre-grammy celebration, because Brothers is that classic shit (I’m getting chills thinking about Too Afraid to Love You). They even did a mix tape with RZA, mos def etc prior to that, so i’ll be rooting for them.

  • Sherae Renee’

    Frank Ocean all the way!!!

  • Jacqueline Atta

Taylor Swift is nominated for what? Carly Rae Jepson is nominated for who? Girl, bye.

No problem with the rest of these nominees though. Grammys did good this year. They went for quality over popularity, and that’s what I like to see.

  • Jacqueline Atta

  • Keetha Montana-Lucas

Give Frank ALL the awards…. Channel Orange has ruled my life since it’s release. It is an album that I haven’t gotten tired of and thats a big deal in my life.

  • bestmusic90′s

If that damn Taylor Swift song wins against Fun and Gotye,” I’m gonna have to choke a bitch” (in my Wayne Brady voice).

  • Ok, that’s fine

So Mint Condition didn’t get a nod.  Ok, I’m just gonna swallow these feelings I’m getting.

    • gabicaligirl

smdh.  they need to be inducted into the R&R hall of fame, already.  Mint Condition is an American classic.

  • Misty ZsaZsaGucci

Woop Woop for the Black Keys, wish they’d get a televised performance to show these prepubescent crap bands.(coughs* FUN) what it look like when its real. Maybe Jack White will perform?
I feel like ‘Stronger’ was on the first ‘Cars’ soundtrack. I can’t believe it came out last year. Her songs are starting to sound alike. Luke James? Meh.
Taylor don’t need them Grammys, and I still hate Take Care for that manic depressive barmitz vah ass cover, Drake can go to velveteen hell.

Yessss Miguel, Tamia, fun., And Elle Varner!
Im SO Glad Lupe Got Nominated.. Surprised That B.o.B Didn’t Get A Nomination.. And Disappointed Lana Del Rey Album Has By Passed Their Attention

    • YouDontWantNoProblems

Lol yeah, I’m trying to understand why she gets payed absolute dust in the States. She’s doing pretty well for herself overseas. That’s where most of her popularity lies and I can’t seem to figure out why :(

  • Kayy

Lowd, Luke James is like sex on Sunday morning, the brutha just does it for me.

    • Elleas Jona

    • Yep It’s Kwanzaa

GIRL YAAAAAAAS. I haven’t heard a falsetto like his since Maxwell, it’s throws panties on the stage good he def. deserves all the success that comes his way.

  • Earthshaker1217

I’m here for Frank Ocean, Kelly Clarkson, Florence + the Machine, The Black Keys, Nas, Kanye, Drake, and Pink.

  • Elleas Jona

    ROTY Frank Ocean TB

  • Elleas Jona

Omg I’m so proud of Lupe! Melanie and Anthony!!! I’m here for them all the way, Melanie girl, Yes Baby!
