Whether you count the old albums that sold close to a billion units worldwide, or you count the $222 million dollar movie, or you count the 2 million units the soundtrack sold, or the NEW REMIXES that sold out worldwide, the category was not about SALES it was the general ARTIST OF THE YEAR. The only awards worth anything (IMO) are the Grammys, Golden Globes, Oscars and Tonys, etc.. AMAs are about sales. Swift winning does not diminish anything and only stupid people would think Taylor Swift is a better artist than MJ. Well, if people want to argue that MJ shouldn’t have won artist of the year, then the next person should have been Lady GaGa. Yes, it was the AMA’s, so really they don’t mean shit, but if you are an artist and want to/will be competing against other artists, your ass needs to be of the same caliber to compete, otherwise you cannot win. That is my issue with Taylor Swift. Sure she’s “talented”(I throw that in quotes because her talent is definitely subjective.), but her talent is not on the level of Lady GaGa, Beyonce, and will never even touch Michael Jackson’s. There is a reason her target audience is little tween girls. Shit, the lyrics she writes are juvenile. If Taylor Swift is going to be handed awards she doesn’t deserve, she needs to be able be running in the same talent circle as those she is “beating” out for said awards. Compare the shit she is writing at 19 to the songs Michael had by the time he was 19. There is no comparison. Compare her career at 19 to that of Beyonce at 19. While I believe Taylor Swift won’t fade into nothing soon, I do know that she will not progress to the level of Beyonce at her age, or Michael at the age of his death. If these award shows want to hand out sympathy awards because Kanye hurt a little white girl’s feelings, they need not have any categories for best anything because aside from best female country, she cannot win. It diminishes their credibility. If you wanna say MJ shouldn’t have won because he didn’t release new shit in 09(hello, This Is It), that’s fine. Then those awards MJ should have gotten need to have been given to Lady GaGa because 09 has been the year of GaGa, and she didn’t need Kanye West to punk her ass to make her a star.

The multi-million album sales of his PREVIOUS works were the direct result of his passing. If he had not passed, THRILLER et al would not have sold 10 copies in the last month or so

TJ you also need to look at things in “context” as well. We’re not looking at Taylor Swift’s career as a whole here…We are looking at her career for the YEAR…Not 2006 and on, but just the YEAR. And there was no possible way that she could have beaten out Beyonce, Lady GaGa, or even Michael Jackson in this category. None what-so-ever. Let’s keep it real…The only two hits that Taylor Swift has had on the pop charts are “Love Story” and “You Belong w/ Me”…And those two songs were always most often times ranked BELOW GaGa’s singles on the pop charts. GaGa had at least 4 top chart hits and Beyonce had at least 5 top chart hits. If we were going by strictly album sales and if the award was titled “ALBUMS of the Year” then MAYBE Taylor could have competed, but ARTIST of the year? I think not. I will give props for her the sales on her TWO albums COMBINED reaching a little over 3 million in sales and her concerts selling out, but let’s not forget that MJ did the same thing with his “Thiller 25″ release that raked in over $3 million and his “This Is It” Concert Tour which also sold out. GaGa’s album “The Fame” has also sold over 3 million albums as well. Let’s face it…The only thing that boosted her popularity was Kanye West embarassing a little white girl and pissing off a bunch of white folks because of it. We all should have learned by now that payback is a bitch and that was “their’ way of embarassing & pissing us the f*** off in return. Nothing else but pure payback in my opinion.

If you notice, I never said anything about the “ARTIST of the Year AWARD” who got it & why? The ARTIST award is “SUPPOSED” to be tabulated using a variety of different criteria & fan voting by those three inbreed looking people from the Price Waterhouse or whatever Big 8 accounting firm they used. (Seriously, the dude in the middle, that freeky wave, crazed look on his face & I cant even begin to grasp what he was trying to pass off of as hair on his head.) Now let me clarify – its a popularity contest. Whom ever’s stans vote the most wins. And Country Music Stans stan harder than anyone else. No VMA backlash at all. I’m sure every one of Taylor’s MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Fan Club stans voted as much as possible. GAGA’s stans would def note vote because it wouldn;t be art or some bizarro rational . MJ’s either I dont think.. Probably got lost in the whole THIS IS IT hoopla.
