Spotlight! - Mike Brown the REMIX

Posted By Kid Fury on Monday.February.18th.2008 in Spotlight! // No Comments

Power blogger, Mike Brown, is probably one of the best writers I sorta know. Hailing from Harlem, NY, I’m proud to say that this 25 year old is a funny, intelligent, and inspirational black man of our generation. I first ran into Mike (aka REMIX…ask him) through Miss Info’s website and once I stumbled upon his Myspace page, I was blown away by his writing talent. Soon enough I subscribed to his blogs, which always seem to touch on whatever I’m going through or thinking of at the moment, and now I’m hooked. Mike has worked with folks from Allhiphop.com to KING Magazine to Kicksclusive Magazine and he is even working on his own publishing company. So, make sure to check out his Myspace page and subscribe to his bloggery!

Progress!

Ummm….What?

Now, Amy Winehouse will always hold a VIP spot in my heart, but this shit right here makes absolutely no sense. Listen to her trying to sing Lauryn Hill’s “Zion”, with about 20,000 liters of liquor in her system. She sounds like this homeless lady named Funk that’s always singing Christmas carols at the Miami Metrorail Station — with the beehive sitting sideways. WineCooler really needs to get it together and I am labeling everyone else in this video (especially the person filming) as enablers. They’re on a slow fall to hell!

Ugh…all this is missing is a needle and a pipe!

Spotlight! - The Round Up

Posted By Kid Fury on Thursday.February.14th.2008 in Spotlight! // 1 Comment

So, as a quick intro, I’m going to be adding a new feature to The Fury called Spotlight. This will basically serve as an opportunity for me to promote people, places, and things that I am feeling at the time. Rappers, singers, producers, DJs, blogs, websites, authors, restaurants, etc. — you can expect to see almost anything under the Spotlight.

So, first up is The Round Up Magazine — a new online urban mag for young men and women. Published by Jocelyn Wilson, The Round Up focuses on the latest in music, fashion, health, love, and culture. They even have a gossip/celebrity news column run by yours truly! February was the launch of the magazine and things are looking up for it. Check The Round Up out today and expect to see big things from them in the future.

Romeo’s Reality Show?

Romeo, I’d like to see this reality show stay right on Nickelodeon where it needs to be. Better yet, throw it on Bravo! where nobody will ever see it.

T.I. Speaks On New Album

Posted By Kid Fury on Thursday.February.14th.2008 in I Can't Hate, Your Opinion Please // 2 Comments

T.I. says he doesn’t know when his Paper Trail LP will be released this year, but it was clear when he talked to us on Wednesday (February 12) that his competitive itch is coming out, though he’s still on house arrest while awaiting trial on gun-possession charges.

“It’s a lot of bullsh– out right now,” he told MTV News via phone from Atlanta. “I’m not gonna front. I feel it’s definitely about time for somebody to come back out and kick this thing back in gear. The rotation is suffering right now. I intend to do something about it. It’s just a matter of when.”

One record that is a lock to make the album is “Let My Beat Pound.”

“That’s gonna be a big record,” Tip said. “It’s a different record. It’s a record I approached differently, and it don’t sound like a typical T.I. record. It’s basically about when you got your first car, one of the first things was to make sure your [sound] system was right. [Oh Lord… — Kid Fury] The love for the boomin’ system. It has the sentiments of LL Cool J’s ‘Boomin’ System,’ but it kind of sounds like a Sir Mix-A-Lot [song]. It’s kinda got the mood and tempo of ‘Posse on Broadway,’ but it’s outta here.” [ source ]

Glad to hear that Cliff is still holding up and working hard. We really need more chicken wing-eating Negroes in the game, so the quicker he gets back the better.

Kanye West - Flashing Lights

This is what has been going around the web as the official version of Kanye West’s new video, but I’m almost certain this is not the full version. It doesn’t feel complete…what happened to this part? Yeah, I’ll wait for the real shit to come out. ”Flashing Lights” is way too hot for them to give us this as its video.

Areefa Is Not Happy!

LOS ANGELES (AP) — When Aretha Franklin is unhappy, she does not mince words. On Tuesday, the longtime Queen of Soul slammed Beyonce Knowles’ intro to Tina Turner at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, in which Knowles called Turner, not Franklin, “the queen.”

“I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce,” Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. “However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.”

E-mails to Knowles’ publicist Yvette Noel-Schure and calls and e-mails to Recording Academy spokeswomen Jaime Sarachit and Barb Deghan were not immediately returned.

In the first few seconds of Knowles’ intro to Turner’s performance, she name-dropped Franklin and a long list of famed female singers. Then the “Crazy in Love” chanteuse focused on Turner.

“There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent,” said Knowles, strutting in hot pants. “Ladies and gentlemen. Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen.”

At a party later that night, Knowles called Turner her “ultimate icon.”

Still, Franklin ended her brief criticism on a gracious note, thanking the Grammys and the voting academy and saying, “love to Beyonce anyway.”

Known for such hits as “Respect” and “Chain of Fools,” Franklin tied with the Clark Sisters for best gospel performance trophy for her duet “Never Gonna Break My Faith” with Mary J. Blige. [ source ]

I’m sorry, I can appreciate this, but I would have much preferred if Ms. Franklin would have expressed her distaste for the situation right at the time it was happening. If she would have pelted Beyonce and Tina with a barrage of hot dogs and Spam sandwiches while they were onstage, my soul would have been no more.

Girlfriends Officially Cancelled

We hear from a source within the “Girlfriends” writing camp that the CW has decided to cancel the series immediately instead of bringing it back for a ninth season. While no official announcement had been made as of press time, we were told the CW will not even film this season’s remaining nine episodes that were suspended during the writer’s strike. Ironically, news of the show’s cancellation comes just as the strike has ended and the writing staff was preparing to return to work. We were informed by one of the writers yesterday that Monday night’s one-hour block of new episodes served as the show’s last. “Girlfriends” became the longest-running live-action comedy series currently on network television with the debut of its current season in October 2007. The writers strike suspended production after only 13 of 22 ordered episodes were completed.

I also hear that Mara Brock Akil and the rest of the production crew were planning to bring Jill Marie Jones back for the series finale, but never got that far. Oh well, they were just a little too late. I was one of the folks who stopped tuning in when Toni Childs was voted off the island, but I do support the show and I hate when they cut great sitcoms off without a proper ending.

There are a few numbers underneath the cut that you can use to call in and verbally bitch-slap a few execs, if you feel the need to fight for the girls.

Monica Covers Sheen

We’re going back to the hair magazine covers, are we Mo’? That’s fine, but what is Sheen? I don’t think the lovely folks at Black Hair are going to tolerate this betrayal.

Ashanti - The Way That I Love You

Oh, Ashanti is still making music, isn’t she? Well, good for her.

This video for her new single is a bit disturbing…and a tad confusing, actually. The vocals on the track are decent for an Ashanti song, but the video could have been done with less blood. On top of that, I would love it if these R&B gals would stop shooting videos in the tub. It’s getting old and this chick here looks like a damn bilge rat coming up out that water.

It’s nice to see homeboy from Madea Goes to Jail getting work, though.
